About Us

Since June 2005, 41 members have devoted more than 13,000 hours of community service to local children and seniors in our Operation School Bell^®, H.O.P.E. for Kids and Silver Slippers philanthropic programs. To date 620 school children have been clothed in our Operation School Bell project; 45 students are in the H.O.P.E. for Kids tutoring project; and over 1,000 senior care residents have attended our Silver Slippers programs.

Assistance League of Raleigh was granted Guild status in June, 2005. There are currently 115 chapters and 2 guilds of National Assistance League^®. Established in the early 1890s, Assistance League is a nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization begun in Southern California to recognize the potential of volunteers in helping those less fortunate to a better, more meaningful life. Founder, Anne Banning, said that the purpose of Assistance League is "To act as a friend at any and all times to men, women, and children in need of care, guidance and assistance, spiritually, mentally and physically."

The strength of our unique organization lies in the fact that through the identification of a needed service, Assistance League becomes a vital, contributing member of the community. Through the gift of service, Assistance League continues to fulfill the philosophy of volunteerism across the United States.
